Your wedding day is one of the most memorable—and most photographed—days of your life. And you didn’t spend months picking the perfect dress just to have a bad hair day and splotchy makeup steal the spotlight! That’s why your bridal glam ranks among the most important details to consider when planning your wedding.
To ensure you look and feel like the most stunning version of yourself, we strongly recommend scheduling a bridal hair and makeup preview. Previews aren’t just a luxury; they’re an essential part of making sure your look is absolutely dialed in before the big day arrives.
A bridal preview (also known as a trial) is a dedicated appointment before your wedding where your hairstylist and makeup artist work together to craft and perfect your wedding day look. During this appointment, you’ll share your vision, explore different styles, and make any tweaks until everything feels just right. Our previews are an hour and a half, giving us plenty of time to get every detail exactly where it needs to be.
We have had brides who are tempted to skip the preview and just show up on wedding morning ready to go. And we love the confidence! But even the most seasoned glam team will tell you that a preview is where the magic begins. Here’s why we’re big fans:
Pinterest boards and inspiration photos are helpful, but not every style translates the same way for every person. A preview allows you to see how a hairstyle or makeup look actually works with your unique features, hair type, skin tone, and personal style.
Your wedding morning is not the time to discover that you don’t like a hairstyle or that a makeup look isn’t what you imagined. A preview allows you to make changes ahead of time so everyone knows exactly what will be done on the wedding day.
Wedding makeup often needs to be slightly different from everyday makeup to photograph beautifully in professional lighting. During your preview, your artist can help determine the right balance of coverage, color, and definition to ensure you look stunning both in person and in photos.
A successful preview gives your beauty team a roadmap. They can document products used, note adjustments, and create a timeline that ensures everything runs efficiently on the wedding day.
Your hairstylist and makeup artist play a major role in how you feel on your wedding day. A preview allows you to build a relationship with them, communicate openly, and feel confident that you’re in good hands.
A preview gives you the opportunity to wear your hair and makeup for several hours and see how it performs. Does your curl hold up? Does your foundation stay fresh? Do your lashes feel comfortable? Does your hair remain secure?
These insights allow your artists to make adjustments before the wedding day.
While we’ve completed beautiful weddings without a preview, skipping one increases the chance of unexpected issues:
You may discover too late that the style you loved online doesn’t work well with your hair length, density, texture, or accessories. On the wedding day, there may not be enough time to completely redesign the look.
Without testing beforehand, brides sometimes feel their makeup doesn’t match their expectations. Some want more glamour, while others feel the look is too dramatic. A preview helps find the perfect balance before the wedding.
Certain hairstyles or makeup applications may take longer than expected. During a preview, your beauty team can accurately estimate timing and make adjustments to keep the wedding morning on schedule.
Veils, crowns, combs, and extensions all affect hairstyle design. Without a preview, you may discover on the wedding day that an accessory doesn’t sit properly or requires a different hairstyle than originally planned.
Every person’s skin and hair respond differently to products. Without a preview, issues such as excess shine, makeup breakdown, sensitivity, or hairstyles losing shape may not be discovered until the wedding day.
To make your preview as productive as possible:
A bridal preview is an investment in confidence, preparation, and peace of mind. It allows you to refine your look, communicate your vision, and ensure that everything feels perfect before your wedding day arrives.
When the wedding morning comes, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the experience knowing there won’t be any surprises when you see yourself in the mirror.
Because on your wedding day, confidence is the most beautiful part of your look.
