Getting ready for a wedding, event, or other occasion where you want to look your best?
Although investing in professional hair & makeup with our talented HEB glam squad will no doubt have you feelin’ yourself, the best hair and makeup starts with a great canvas – healthy glowing skin & hair is the perfect foundation to ensure you’re in LOVE with your look.
Here are our top beauty picks and tips from our founder, Hannah Metz – Think of this as your pre-wedding or event beauty boot camp!
8-12 weeks Before the event
Start treating your hair with some TLC – With all the hot tools, brushing, over-cleansing, tight buns and ponytails, and coloring/highlighting, we put our hair through a lot!
No matter what way you plan to style your hair, nourished, cared for hair will always look the best in any hairdo. We recommend using a hair mask once a week to help hydrate and tame damage! We love this one by Gisou!
We also recommend using a hair oil on your mid length to ends daily to help protect against heat damage & quench those dry ends! Since most of our natural hair oils only make it to your roots, providing a substitute for those oils throughout the rest of the hair will keep your locks looking gorgeous and shiny. We love this one by Gisou which is even infused with honey!
Finally, we recommend getting an itty bitty trim (what we like to call a dusting!) about 8 weeks out to break up with any split ends and make your hair look thick & voluminous.
Did you know that the build up of product, shampoo & conditioner in your hair can actually weigh your hair down? That’s right – Just like our bodies need a little cleanse every once in a while (like after a mimosa fueled bachelorette party 😉 your hair does too! This will make your curls last longer, give your hair natural body, and provide a clean canvas for your stylist to begin working.
We recommend cleansing your hair the week of or even the day before the event with a clarifying shampoo, applying conditioner to just the ends of your hair, and either air drying or blow drying your hair afterwards with minimal products or sprays. Oh, and that myth about dirty hair being better for updos? We’re here to say once and for all that this is 100% false! Freshly cleaned & dry hair (one to two days old at the most) is best!
We love the Ouai Detox Shampoo for this!
8-12 Weeks out from the event
Some may call our Makeup Artists magicians with the transformative looks they create to enhance your natural beauty – But unfortunately, we don’t possess magical powers!
We cannot make blemishes disappear with the tap of a brush, or get rid of fine lines and wrinkles with our mystical lotions and potions. Although we do the best we can to focus on getting your skin to look flawless, this is much easier to do when your skin is at it’s very best.
We recommend starting a skincare routine customized to fit your needs – whether you’re acne prone, oily, dry, or combatting signs of aging, give yourself enough time for the products you’re using to truly work! If you’re really struggling, we recommend working with an esthetician or dermatologist to help you address more serious concerns.
One of the most common mistakes that we see our clients make is arriving to their makeup appointment with dehydrated, dull & flaky skin.
The fix? The week of or night before your event, we recommend using a gentle exfoliant & deep hydrating moisturizer or night mask to wake up with a natural glow!
Here are some of our favorite products you can use to achieve this:
Remember to drink lots of water & avoid excess alcohol which can be super drying to the skin!
